Outlook express, developed by Microsoft, is an email client program that allows users to manage their emails account from a single interface. Installing and running the Outlook Express application on your PC is a fairly easy task. You will have to run the Outlook Email setup wizard to link your multiple email accounts to the Outlook application.  You might have noticed that whenever you click an email link on a website, or choose the Send to option from the right click drop down list, your primary email client program will launch an email creation page. If your PC uses a third party application as the primary email client, and you wish to change this to Microsoft Outlook, you will have to tweak the windows settings to set your preferences.  The following instruction will show you how to do it!

Instructions to make Outlook Express as primary email client program:

  • Log in to your computer as the administrator. To check which accounts

    registered on your PC have administrator privileges, click on the Windows Start menu to open up Control Panel, and search for the User Accounts icon. Now double click to open it, and check Administrator placed next to the user name.

  • Launch the application and see if you have linked your email accounts with the help of the Outlook Email setup wizard. This is just to ensure whether your Outlook application is working fine.
  • Again, navigate back to the Control Panel window, and search for an icon titled Internet Options. Double click and open it, and the Internet Properties dialog box will pop up.
  • Navigate to the Programs tab under the Internet Properties window. Now you need to click the Email option and select Microsoft Office Outlook from the drop down list. Now click the Apply button to save the changes made, and close the dialog box window by clicking the Ok button. This method can be used for Windows XP.
  • For windows Vista, click the Set Programs button to open the Default Programs window.
  • Click on Set Default Programs and set to Microsoft Office Outlook. Now, mark the option titled Set This Program as Default and finally click the Ok button to save the changes made.
